Evening Post, 13 Dec. 1917,
Rifleman, Charles V. Barnard, fourth son of Mr and Mrs. H. J. Barnard, of Eltham has been killed in action. Rflmn. Barnard was employed at the Railway Department at Wellington when he enlisted and left the Dominion with the 2nd Battalion of the Rifle Brigade, seeing service in Egypt. Proceeding to France, he took part in all the important engagements in which the Rifle Brigade had been engaged. Of Mr. Barnard's six sons who have been on active service two have been killed and one seriously wounded, one has been invalided home, and two are still at the front. Three of the sons left with the Main Body.
