Winifred Annie & Alan Gibson Fisher

Winifred (Winnie) Annie Fisher b: 06 Dec 1891 in Toronto, Canada, the only daughter to parents Allan Gibson Fisher (1865-1949) and mother Harriet Ellen Barnard (1861-1949)born who were serving there in the Salvation Army; d: 28 Jul 1978 in Canberra, Australia.

Winnie,  received her early education at Auburn Primary School, Winnie was a Company Guard at Hawthorn Corps and won a scholarship to attend at the Methodist Ladies College at Hawthorn, Melbourne. On leaving school she attended Melbourne University, where she graduated with a Master of Arts Degree, and went teaching at the Methodist Ladies College (her old school)     -

She mar: 13 Sep 1915 in Methodist Church, St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria to Francis Lyth (Bill) Nance (b: 26 Jul 1888 in b: Southport, Lancashire, England to parents Francis James Nance (1857-1930) and mother Margaret Lyth (1853-1930); Occ: Doctor at Colac, Victoria; he d: 8 Apr 1966 in Doncaster, Melbourne)

Although Winnie did not work in paid employment after he marriage, she was very active in Social Services, and was awarded an MBE for her services to the community in Colac.  Her husband, known as Bill, was the son of a Methodist Minister and teacher, was educated at a primary school in Melbourne and at Lauceston in Tasmania, where his family lived.  He later attended Wesley College in Melbourne, and graduated from Melbourne University with a MB and BS.  He was a Captain in the Medical Corps and served overseas in WW1.  After Bill's death, Winnie moved to Canberra, until her death in 1978.  They had 3 children.

Margaret, elder daughter of Winnie and Bill Nance, was educated at Colac, and graduated with a B.Sc. from Melbourne University.  She later got a Ph.D. from London and, after graduating there with her Doctorate, was employed as a Bio-Chemist at the Lister Institute, London.  After returning to Australia, she was employed as Librarian at the Academy of Science in Canberra.

ii Rosemary Frances Winifred Nance b: Melbourne, Victoria  Mar: 01 Dec 1951 in Kew, Melbourne, Victoria to Howard Bruce* Cailes (b: 17 Oct 1926 in Perth, WA to parents Ray Lesley Cailes and mother Amelia Sally Plumb; Occ: Med. Pracritioner; d: 21 Nov 1995 in Geelong, Victoria; 23 Nov 1995 Crem. Geelong Crematorium)

Rosemary, younger daughter of Winnie and Bill Nance, graduated from Melbourne University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and a Diploma of Social Studies.  She was employed at the Peter McCallum Clinic (a Cancer Hospital), St. John's Family Guidance Clinic and the Department of School Education of Victoria.  After a short retirement, she then returned to work for a period (1993-1995) with the Commonwealth Special Education and again for six months in 1997 as the Senior Social Worker at a Family Counselling Agency in Melbourne. Howard and Rosemary's children;
