In April 2013 it will be 150 years since our Benbow Pioneers, William and Mary arrived with their family from Shropshire on the barque, the "Huntress" at Canterbury. Huge, rough seas on the open coast with no wharf, prevented them disembarking at Timaru. South Canterbury passengers were taken on to Lyttelton, where they unloaded and they returned by coastal shipping.
In 1973 Benbow descendants met at Christchurch - this site is made to update the Benbow book Catherine recorded about our ancestors. Photocopying was the technology of the 70's and lacked today's clarity. Your help is needed to update that valuable documentation and please, if you hold original photos of family members, could these be scanned and sent to give clear images. During site construction, copying has been blocked
