John Luxton, Devon Ag. Lab, immigrated
under the Canterbury Association Scheme and came to New Zealand on
the "Castle Eden with his family arriving 1851 and he went to Caverhill at
Chreviot. In 1887 he came to Rangiora in order to get his family educated
where he bought a 50 acre farm and enlarged it later, Occ: Farmer, built
his farmhouse corner John's Rd and West Belt, called it "Forest Dale". He
became a prosperous farmer and was very keen and on local sports
meetings. He was an early member of the A & P Assoc. His dog got
amonf Rickman's ewes and he had to pay £40. John played in a crisket match
Rangiora Tradesmen v Milford Schoolboys 1871. He was elected to the first
Rangiora school committee after the district decided to come under the Bd
of Bd of School regulations. He was elected to the first Rangiora
Borough Council in Jun 1878 and was a member of the St John's in
