The next 20 years cannot be accounted for but 1890 Fred Wreb is in New Zealand where he married Sarah Jane Bolton daughter of Job Bolton and Rebecca Keen, at the Onehunha church on 12 Feb 1890. His marriage certificate says he was widowed  on the 17th Oct 1887, was an orchardist (when incarcerated in Sydney, he stated he owned a valuable horticulture unit - no proof to date is found to support this and no proof to support the published obituary, that Fred also had a family by a third marriage).

Fredrick was a fruit dealer in Onehunga, Auckland when their first son Norman Henry Wren was born  19 Dec 1890. however, when on 9th June 1891 Sarah expressed concerns about the legitamacy of her marriage, Fred immediately left New Zealand using the alias Thomas Frederick Roberts.

Sarah applied to the Auckland Court on the grounds of wife desertion. Fred was found and arrested in Sydney. Sarah was required to guarantee the costs to have an Onehunga constable sent to Sydney to bring him back on the SS Manapouri so her family assisted her financially. Back at Auckland, he was granted bail for 200 as regarded "comforably off". By Court day, Fred had given his wife Sarah answers that met her satisfaction and so, persuaded, she refused to allow the prosecution to proceed and the case got dismissed.

Despite Sarah stating she had no contact with Fred's first wife, Sophia was able to record in the 1911 England census she knew she had become a widow - she had been informed of Fred's death in New Zealand.
