MR. W. H. CLARKE.
There passed away at Pungarehu, on Tuesday evening, a very old
resident in the person of Mr Walter Henry Clarke, senr., who for
many years lived at Tataraimaka. The deceased was one of the few
remaining Taranaki Military Settlers, and came to this district in
1868. After serving his term in the above force he settled on his
Military grant of land on the Timaru road. About twenty years ago he
met with an accident — a serious injury to the spine from the
resuits of which he became blind, and later on bed ridden. About six
or seven years ago he went to live with his daughter (Mrs W. Harvey,
of Pungarehu), at whose residence he passed quietly away at the age
of 67 years. The deceased leaves four sons and two daughters to
mourn their loss, and to whom we extend our sympathy in their
bereavement.
