(New Zealand Herald, 24 May 1934) FALL ON COWSHED FLOOR; HAMILTON, Wednesday: Injuries to his spine were received by Mr. Norman Pope, aged 22 years, a farm hand, when he slipped on the floor of a cowshed in which he was employed at Otorohanga yesterday. Mr. Pope was admitted to thtf Waikato Hospital late last evening. His condition is serious.

ACCIDENT ON FARM: DEATH OF YOUNG MAN HAMILTON. Thursday The death occurred in the Waikato Hospital to-day of Mr. Norman Harold Pope, aged 22, a farm hand, who was injured at Otorohanga on Tuesday. Mr. Pope was engaged in rounding up some cows on the farm of bis employer, Mr. C. B. Hobson, of Whawharua, Otorohanga, to take them to a sale when one of the cows broke away. In chasing it Mr. Pope stepped on to a small bridge. He slipped an fell, striking his head on the side o the drain. His spine was fractured. Deceased, who was a single man, was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Pope, of Avondale.  An inquest was opened before Mr. W. Platts, S.M., coroner, to-day after evidence of identification had been taken, was adjourned sine die.

Horowhenua Chronicle , 29 May 1913; FOOTBALL.  HOROWHENUA  RUGBY UNION The management committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union met last night, in the Chronicle office. Intimation was sent by the referee in the Shannon v. Hui Mai (junior) match that H. V. Pope had been injured so severely that he could not yet follow his vocation.
