JOHN SYDNEY2 GUILFORD was b: 26 Sep 1867 in Wellington (his parents were father John Sydney Guilford, gardener and fireman - his mother was Fanny Guilford formerly McCafferty). He  died 14 Apr 1896 at Wellington Hospital, aged 28Y, cause of death - Pneumonia. Bur: 16 Jul 1896, Karori Cem. Wellington.

Funeral notice - 14 May 1896: Mr John Guilford will leave the residence of Mr P McCafferty, Frederick St, of Taranaki St, this day, Sat. at 3 pm. Friends are respectfully invited.

Newspaper Report (15 May 1896) Central Volunteer Fire Brigade are requested to assemble at the Central Fire Station to follow the remains of the late respected fellow-member John Guilford on Sat next at 2 pm sharp. Helmets and acoutrements

1896 Evening Post,  9 May 1896: A "social" was held last night in Thomas' Hall in aid of, the widow and orphans of the late Mr. J. S Guilford. Fully 80 couples were present. The committee - Messrs. G. Brown, H. Collins, G. E. Fearn, J. Coringe, and Mr. W. Chandlor as Secretary�expects to be able to hand over �40. The hall was lent free of charge by Messrs. Georgo Thomas & Co., and Platt's Band gave its services in aid of the affair. Refreshments were supplied by a committee of ladies consisting of Mrs. Evans and Misses Collins

Evening Post,  14 July 1892; The firebells rang out vigorously at about 11 o'clock last night, the alarm being caused by an outbreak in the parlour of a boardinghouse kept by Mrs. Guilford, Kent-terrace. Fortunately Muss Guilford discovered and checked the fire in time to prevent any serious damage. It is supposed that one of the inmates of the house must have left a jet of gas burning too close to the wall of the room. The house is tho property of Mr. Owen, of Wanganui, and the furniture is insured in the South British office for �250.
