Joseph Pattrick
Joseph PATTRICK was b: 1814 at Burgh-le-Marsh. Lincolnshire, England to parents David Pattrick (1769 - 1843) and mother Ann nee Locking (1772 - 1817).
A batchelor, Joseph, labourer, mar: 21 Dec 1839 at the Hundley St Mary Church to Alice Laughton occ: - servant (b: 1820 Lincolnshire dau. of Smith Laughton, occ: rat-catcher (1799 - 1859) and mother Elizabeth nee King (1797 - 1876).
Census 1841: Joseph Patrick is living at Hundleby, Lincolnshire with wife Alice and daughter Elizabeth aged 11 mths
Joseph & Alice immigrated on the “Cressy” and arrived 27 Dec 1850 at Lyttelton with their 7 children Elizabeth, David, Maria, Smith, Thomas, Harriet & Joseph. He took up land at St Albans and later on, had about 300 acres at Ashley. He also had a farm named "Raithby" on the Wamakariri River. When he retired he returned to St Albans Road, Christchurch where he died on 19 Jun 1880 aged 64Y at Christchurch where he is buried at Barbadoes St Cemetery, Christchurch)
The PATTRICK family were strong abiding Methodists and did a lot to support the early Methodist Churches in Canterbury, including donating land for Raithby Methodist Church in Rangiora. Joseph and Alice were remembered 16 July 1908 for
all their help with the unveiling of a memorial plaque on 16 July 1908 at
St Albans Methodist Church. Their children:
