Joseph Pattrick

 

Joseph PATTRICK was b: 1814 at Burgh-le-Marsh. Lincolnshire, England to parents David Pattrick (1769 - 1843) and mother Ann nee Locking (1772 - 1817).  

 

A batchelor, Joseph, labourer, mar: 21 Dec 1839 at the Hundley St Mary Church to Alice Laughton occ: - servant (b: 1820 Lincolnshire dau. of Smith Laughton, occ: rat-catcher (1799 - 1859) and mother Elizabeth nee King (1797 - 1876).

 

 Census 1841: Joseph Patrick is living at Hundleby, Lincolnshire with wife Alice and daughter Elizabeth aged 11 mths

 

Joseph & Alice immigrated on the “Cressy” and arrived 27 Dec 1850 at Lyttelton with their 7 children Elizabeth, David, Maria, Smith, Thomas, Harriet & Joseph. He took up land at St Albans and later on, had about 300 acres at Ashley. He also had a farm named "Raithby" on the Wamakariri River. When he retired he returned  to St Albans  Road, Christchurch where he died on 19 Jun 1880  aged 64Y at Christchurch where he is buried at Barbadoes St Cemetery, Christchurch)

 

The PATTRICK family were strong abiding Methodists and did a lot to support the early Methodist Churches in Canterbury, including donating land for Raithby Methodist Church in Rangiora. 

 Joseph and Alice were remembered 16 July 1908 for all their help with the unveiling of a memorial plaque on 16 July 1908 at St Albans Methodist Church.

1 Elizabeth PATTRICK (b: Jun 1840 Wisbech, Lincolnshire; d: 7 Apr 1912 Papanui, Christchurch) mar: in 1862 to Robert Marshall  CRESSWELL, (b: 11 Nov 1840 Marlbone, London the son of Thomas Richard Marshall CRESSWELL & Jemima TAYLOR who came out on the “Sir George Seymour"; d: 24 Sep 1916 Rangiona) They had 14 children
 
2 David Smith PATTRICK (b: 2 Nov 1841 Hundleby, Lincolnshire; occ; butcher; d: 1904 Ashburton; bur: Barbadoes Cemetery ChCh) mar: 14 May 1866  (1) to Sarah  SAVAGE (1843 – 1884) They had 8 children;  he remar: in 1888 to Isabella COWIE (27 Jun 1867 Scotland to parents Robert Cowie and mother Christins Robinson; she d: 6 Jun 1950 Christchurch). They had 4 children.
3 Maria PATTRICK (b: Jun 1843 Spilsby, Lincolnshire; Bapt 16 Jul 1843 Hundleby, Lincolnshire; d: 12 Feb 1911 Christchurch); mar: 11 Dec  1863 at Christchurch to William FREE (b: 11 Jul 1840 Dublin, Ireland son of Thomas FREE & Elizabeth THOMPSON; immigrated 1850 "Randolph"; d: 26 Feb 1907 Matson's Rd, Papanui aged 66Y; bur: Linwood Cem.) . They had 11 children

5 Thomas Laughton PATTRICK (Bapt 15 Jun 1847 at Croft All Saints; Spilsby, Lincolnshire; occ: farmer; d: 1931 at his residencce Clarence Road, Riccarton, Christchurch, married in 1877 to Annabella PEARSON (b: 1856 daughter of Richard PEARSON; d:1944 ). Their son Edly Victor b: 1878
 
6 Harriet PATTRICK (b: Dec 1848 Spilsby, Lincolnshire; d: 1896, mar in 1876 to Charles WILSON (b: 1852; d: 1925) They had 7 children.
 
7 Joseph Laughton PATTRICK  (b:  27 Dec 1850 Spilsby, Lincolnshire; occ: butcher; d: 1912 Christchurch); married in 1873 to Mary DENNIS ( 16 Jul 1860; d: 1920 Christchurch). They had 9 children
 
8 Sarah Ann PATTRICK   (b: 9 Mar 1853 Christchurch; d: 25 Feb 1912 at her residence Ritchie St, Invercargill aged 58Y; bur: Eastern Cenetery)  married in 1876 to Twentyman HODGSON (b: 8 Oct 1854 England son of Anthony HODGSON & Barbara LENNOX; occ: farmer and stock dealer ; d: 9 Apr 1924 Loburn) They had 9 children 
 
9 John PATTRICK  1854 Christchurch; d:  ? (twin of Susan).
 
11 Mary Ann PATTRICK   (b: 1855 Christchurch;  d: 1925 Wellinton) married in 1885 William Barnes ROBINSON 1855 son of William Barnes ROBINSON & Mary Ann Jane UMPHELBY; occ: commercial travellerr; d: 1919 Wellington. They had 10 children
 
12 John Charles PATTRICK (b: 1856 Christchurch; d: 1856 aged 8 wks).

15 John Aldred Beecham PATTRICK  (b: 1860; d: Aug 25 1886 at his residence Mayfield, Papanui, Christchurch), married in 1882 Martha Jane REESE (b: 1861 daughter of John REESE & Eliza Ann MEDDINGS; d: 1940 aged 79Y).
 
16 Charles Hedley Vicars PATTRICK  (b:  1862; d: 1863 aged 10 mths).
