ROSANNA (Florrie) FRANCES GUILFORD (b. 28 May 1871, Pipitea Point, Moore Street, Wellington to parents John Sydney and Frances (Fanny) nee McCafferty; d: 11 Dec 1959, Manly Vale, Sydney). 

She mar in 1885 to (1) JAMES CALDWELL BATEMAN RANKIN, son of ALEXANDER RANKIN and ANNA POWICK. James was b: 29 Oct 1861 in Wairau Valley, Marlborough, (he mar: (1) 1881 to  Elizabeth Macgregor Bruce at Marlborough and they had 2 sons - Donald James Rankin (b: 1884; d Melbourne, Victoria, Aus) and Oswald Bruce Rankin (1882 Marlborough) (This site states James was with Tangopo Tehaupa Matire, Ngapua and had 2 sons b: 1893 and 1896???)  James d 27 Sep 1924 in Walwa, Victoria Australia.) It is difficult to verify any of this research - can you help?

Dec 1892, Rotorua;  Occ: Engineer; WW1 Service  No: 4128; on enlistment lived 16 Undercliffe Street, Neutral Bay, Sydney, New South Wales; Rank Private; Place of Enlistment: Liverpool, NSW, Australia; Sergeant; Unit: 17th Field Co. Australian Engineers; Army Award Distinguished Conduct Medal; 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during rescue operations near Anzac on 29th October, 1915, when he twice descended a mine shaft which was foul with gas fumes. He inspected each branch down the shaft, and was only just able to reach the mouth of the tunnel again.';Digitised record  he d. 21 Apr 1922, Orange, NSW.) Wife, Mrs Minnie Elma Rankin, 16 Undercliffe Street, Neutral Bay, Sydney, New South Wales. notes: Returned to Australia 25 Feb. 1919; Residence 1930: Calare, NSW; d: 1933.

MAN'S TRAGIC MISTAKE, ORANGE, Friday. Cyril Roy Rankin, 43, married, occupying a house in Dalton-street by himself during the temporary absence of his wife, was discovered in a serious condition in the backyard of the premises yesterday morning by a neighbour. Nearby was a bottle containing white crystals. Rankin said he had taken them thinking they were epsom salts, but he faintly remarked: "I think it has got me." He then collapsed, and died soon after.)

Observer: 21 Dec 1918: At Brisbane recently Florence Mary Guilford petitioned for the dissolution of her marriage with Arthur Wallace Lawrence Guilford, known on the stage as Carlton Max. Petitioner gave evidence that Carlton Max. preferred one Nina Bickerton saying that he loved her and intended to remain with her. There were six children of the marriage, their ages ranging from 22 to 11 years. Corespondent deserted her in 1915. Sir Pope Cooper granted a decree nisi, with costs against the respondent.

She mar: 1937 at Sydney to (3) ARTHUR ADAMS in Glebe, Sydney, NSW. (He was b: 27 Mar 1870 in Cowra, NSW, Australia, son of James and Jane Adams; he d: 19 Mar 1948 in Manly, NSW.) Children of this marriage to Arthur Adams were variously registered as Guilford, Martin and or Adams....
