He was b: 03 Dec 1858 son of John and Mary Ann Edwards, Occ: 1894, Carpenter; He d: 7 Jan 1904 in Carterton.Manawatu Herald , 7 June 1894; William Albert Edwards was charged with having, on the 19th April at Palmerston North, forged the name of J Levy to a cheque for £1 7s, drawn in favour of 0. J. Jackson or bearer. The prisoner pleaded not guilty. In cross-examination prisoner was asked if there was any previous conviction against him. Mr Wilford objected to the question as not being a fair one to the accused. After argument, however, His Honor allowed the question to be put, and Edwards admitted having been convicted of stealing an overcoat on the 26th April, a date after the time he was alleged to have forged the cheque. He had done a term of imprisonment in the Wanganui Gaol for it. The coat belonged to Mr Linton, of the firm of Mowlem and Linton, whose office was in the Theatre Royal, the same room from which the blank cheque was alleged to have been abstracted. His Honor summed up, and the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. SUDDEN DEATH at CARTERTON, During the run of the mail train from Wellington 7 Jan 1904 a passenger, a married man named Albert Edwards, 35 years of age, died suddenly last evening. He had been treated in the Wellington city hospital suffering from consumption of the throat and was seized by a violent fit of coughing and broke a blood vessel and died almost immediately. Deceased was accompanied by his wife and 12 year old daughter who were coming to Carterton to take over a boarding house.
