Ernest's father was JOSHUA CALEB ROBINSON (b: 1849; d: 20 Apr 1927 in Auckland) He married 1875 MARY ANN MANNEER TREMAINE, the daughter of EDWIN TREMAINE (she was born 1854, and died 12 Jul 1916 in Westminster Rd, Mt Eden, Auckland)

Auckland Star, 21 April 1927: OBITUARY. MR. J. C. ROBINSON - 78 YEARS' RESIDENT

Another early resident of Auckland died during Easter in the person of Mr. Joshua Caleb Robinson. He was born in Fort Street 78 years ago, and had lived here practically the whole of his life. As a lad Mr. Robinson went with his parents farming in the Pukekohe district. He remembered at the outbreak of war with the Maoris having been sent with other lads to warn various settlers. The Robinson family returned to Auckland to live while the war lasted. Mr. Robinson was apprenticed to the business which afterwards developed into the well-known firm of Hill and Plummer. Ltd.

When the Thames goldlields opened he tried his luck on the diggings. Later he returned to Auckland and settled down at his trade. Subsequently Mr Robinson started business on his own account in Ponsonby, where for many vears he resided.

In his younger days Mr. Robinson was an energetic worker in the Temperance and Band of Hope movement of that day. He was one of the early members of the Ponsonby Bowling Club, and played with that club for a number of years, subsequently being associated with the Dominion Road and Mount Eden Clubs. Deceased had a genial disposition and made many friends amongst those with whom he associated. both in business and social life. He was predeceased by his wife, who was a daughter of Sir Edwin Tremain, at Auckland, and is survived by a family of three sons and three daughters.

MARY WILLIAMS  THOMAS) was born on May 1879 in Thames and was the second daughter of THOMAS WILLIAMS and ELLEN WALKER.  Mary married ALEXANDER (ALEC) BATEMAN.  Alec was born on 30 June 1884 was son of ROBERT LESSE BATEMAN and MARGARET HILL who had married in 1869.

Mary and Alec settled in Karaka Creek Road, Thames next-door to Mary's sister Ethel and her husband.   Alec was a Butcher as well as a Gold Star Fireman.  Mary died on 26 December 1972 in Thames.  Alec died on died 22 April 1968 in Thames.   Mary and Alec were both buried at Totara Cemetery in Thames (Public Plot A-0005)

MARY WILLIAMS and ALEC BATEMAN son was THOMAS LEA BATEMANwho worked as an Accountant for the Thames Hospital Board.  Lea and Hazel were both buried at Totara Cemetery in Thames (Public Plot E3-0027) http://lesleysfamilytree.co.nz/williams.html
