![]() Inquest into the Death Of Samuel Prosser 26th Sept. 1862 Coroners Finding & Deposition Of Witnesses: That Samuel Prosser Died at Little Bourke
Street Melbourne From a poisonous dose of Laudanum taken by himself whilst
in a state of intoxication.
Witness: Thomas Fitzgerald Esq. Surgeon I was called this morning at a quarter past seven
o'clock to see the deceased. I found him in a state of coma, his pupils
were contracted, his breathing was strictured, he could not be revived. I
got some coffee, but he could not swallow it. Before I
could use a stomach pump the deceased died. The cause of
death was poisoning by Opium. Signed Thos. W. Fitzgerald.

Witness: John William Hood. Chemist.
I sold on yesterday afternoon an ounce of Laudanum to the
deceased. He said his horse was ill. He asked me the dose, he stated he
was in the habit of giving half an ounce. I told him to give about a
third. I knew the deceased he was in the habit of dealing with me for
drugs. He did not appear to be drunk. Signed John W. Hood Witness: Fredrick C. Lamb. Chemist.
I am a chemist, I have seen the deceased, I sold on
yesterday afternoon at about three o'clock to a person resembling him an
ounce of Laudanum. He said he wanted it for a horse. I frequently sell
Laudanum in quantities for horses. Signed Fredk. C. Lamb.
