Timaru Herald, 18 Jan 1909: The Garrison Band have secured the services of Mr William Craig, well known as the euphonium player- the Marine Band. Mr Craig will be a great acquisition to the former organisation, but his loss will be a heavy blow to the Marines. Overtures have also been made to several other leading players of the Marine Band, and if the inducements offered are accepted, the strengthening of its personnel, together with the new instruments, should make the Garrison a first-class band, and could render a good account of itself at its next contest.

TEMUKA LEADER,  24 FEB 1914; ACCIDENT AT TIMARU. LUMP 0F COAL. An accident happened yesterday morning at about 9 o'clock on board the S.S. Kakapo, at Timaru. The vessel, which is lying at No 2 wharf, was discharging coal, when a lump fell from a basketful which was being sent up from No 1 hold, and fell the full depth of the hold, some 30 feet, striking a young man named William Craig on the back and inflicting an injury to the spine. Dr. Hums and the Ambulance Brigade were quickly on the spot, and the injured man was slung up out of the hold, and removed to his home, where he was attended by Dr. Ulrick. Craig is a maried man whose home is at Waimataitai. He plays the euphonium in the Marine Band, and is very popular with his associates. Much of his leisure time is spent in teaching young players. The latest report is that Criag's injuries are not of a very serious nature, and that he is doing as well as can be expected.
