1903 Timaru Herald, 19 Feb: WAIMATE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL BOARD. The regular meeting of the Waimate District High School Board was held en Tuesday last. The chairman, as a member of the Scholarship Committee, read the report of that Committee on the late examination results. There were ten candidates for the Board's scholarships, namely, two girls and one boy for the senior, and four boys and three girls for the junior scholarship. Miss Alice Hinch ,of Nukuroa (Waimate school), won the Board's senior scholarship, and Miss Jessie Pelvin, of Waitaki school, won the junior scholarship.

1903 Timaru Herald: 30 Mar: Farewell PRESENTATION To Teacher, MR THOMAS.
A large and enthusiastic gathering was held  at Waitaki school on Friday evening, when the friends of Mr Thomas met to wish him good-bye. Mr David Wallace, chairman of the School Committee occupied the chair, and it seemed as if the entiree population. old and young, had determined to be present. Mr Wallace, on behalf of the residents of Waitaki, thanked Mr Thomas heartily lor the warm interest which he had taken in the school games, the excellent reports which he had gained from the Inspector of Schools, and for the loyal way in which he had worked with the Committee. Mr Wallace asked Mr Thomas to accept a veiy handsome dressing case, as a mark of the great respect which he was held by every resident of the district. Response: "Referring to the part he had taken in the school games, that had been a pleasure, and he was quite as much pleased at the fine performance of Jack Dalgleish in the 440 race in Timaru on Thursday as he was at Jessie Pelvin winning a Waimate Scholarship. He urged the pupils to keep on learning when they left school."

Loved Grandma of Lincoln and Rachel, Alexandra, Matthew, Jimmy and Junko, Rachel and Anand, Olly and Meg, Great- Grandmother of Rafael. At peace with Dad. According to her wishes a service was held in the Selwyn Chapel on Friday 24 June 2011.
