WEDDING; DREW - DEMPSEY: The marriage was
solemnised at St. John’s Church, Waikouaiti, on Wednesday last, between
Stanley James, only son of the late Mr and Mrs Drew, of South
Canterbury, and Florence Jcfferis, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Owen
Dempsey, of Goodwood. The officiating clergyman was Archdeacon Button,
and Miss Mabel Turner presided at the organ. The church had been
tastefully decorated in a colour scheme of cream and gold. The bride,
who was given away by her father, wore a long-sleeved gown of deep cream
satin, with a softly draped neckline. Her veil of embroidered Brussels
net was held in place by a coronet of orange blossom, and fell to (he
edge of her graceful train. She carried a shower bouquet of cream roses
and freesias.
The bridesmaid. Miss Hazel Lang, wore a frock of
old gold georgette, the bodice and sleeves of which were softly ruchcd.
The sash was of bronze velvet ribbon. A gold tulle veil was held in
place by a posy of bronze velvet flowers, and her bouquet was of mixed
flowers to tone. Mr John Dempsey carried out the duties of best man. A
reception was hold in Goodwood Hall, the guests being received by Mrs
Dempsey, who wore a becoming frock of navy wool georgette, and carried a
Victorian posy of golden rosebuds. She was assisted by the bridegroom’s
sister, Mrs Williams, attired in a smart tailored costume and carrying a
posy in red tunings. The bride’s grandmother, Mrs Jeffcris, of Oamaru.
was among the guests. Her pretty posy was of violets and lavender
freesias. Vocal solos were sung at the reception bv Mrs Scott (Dunedin,
and Messrs Sloan (Goodwood) and Cameron (Palmerston). Later the bride
and bridegroom left for the north by car, the former wearing a woollen
suit of soft green with brown accessories. The future home of Mr and Mrs
Drew will be at Highbank, Canterbury.
