William Willoughby (b: 01 Jul 1845 in Hornsey, Middlesex, England  (his ancestry - ALFRED TALBOT4, WILLIAM HANS3, JEREMIAH2, JEREMIAH1); He immigrated to NZ in 1864 and in Sep 12 1868  Lance Corporal William Willoughby applied for discharge from the No.4 Division Armed Constabulary (Lieut-Col. Moule, Hamilton) 

William mar: 07 Dec 1874 in Newcastle (Ngaruawahia) Waikato to Barbara Josephine Merchant (b: 17 Aug 1848 in St Johns, New Foundland, Canada - her parents were Irish born Valentine Marchant (1809-1867) and mother Barbara Mary Cox (1804-1869) - both died in Canada.)

In 1874, the Minister for Public Works arranged that Barbara Josephine Marchant should convey to the Crown Lots 586 and 602, Town of Newcastle, Provincial District of Auckland, in exchange for the three lots of land; Lots 603, 660 and 662, the land first above-mentioned being required for the purposes of the Kaipara-Waikato Railway

Timaru Herald, 1 October 1908 A meeting was held in the Geraldine Oddfellows' Hall on Tuesday evening, to consider the advisability, of forming a new tennis club. Mr A. A. Readdie presided, and there was a fair attendance. It was unanimously solved that a club be formed, to be called the Geraldine Domain Tennis Club.Elected :—committee. Misses Bryant and Sommerville. and Messrs H. Baughen and J. A. Willoughby. and officers. Tlie new club bids fair to become very strong numerically as already many members have been enrolled; and the convenience of the Domain courts to all parts of the borough will no doubt enhance their popularity
