Lars Dominic JACOBSEN (b: 24 Oct 1847 in Fredrikshald, Ostfold, Norway; d: 18 March 1914 in ChCh)

A bootmaker by trade, he immigrated from Drammen in 1865 on the "Constantine" and for some years conducted his shoemaking business in Lyttelton where he mar: 6 April 1869  Maria ALLENDER (she was b: Abt. 1852 in County Clare, IRL, and d: 22 July 1935 in Sydenham, Christchurch; Bur: Addingham Cemetery)

Akaroa Mail, 21 Feb 1879: Bro L. Jacobsen, P.N.tr., occupied the chair ODDFELLOWS' FETE AT LITTLE RIVER. Wednesday, the 12th being the anniversary of the institution of the Oddfellows at Little River, the occasion was celebrated by the members of the Lodge walking in procession. This was followed by sports, for which upwards of £8 were collected for prizes.

Press 19 Mar 1914: Mr Lars Jacobsen, a very old and respected resident of Sydenham, passed away yesterday morning. Mr Jacobsen arrived at Lyttelton fifty years ago, and carried on business there during its early history. He had lived in Sydenham for the past thirty-fivo years, and was one of its oldest inhabitants. He leaves a widow, five sons, and a daughter (Mrs H. Killner). He was recently asked to take, over the Consulship of Norway, but owing to failing health had to decline.
