The Curtis family arrived at Wellington Dec. 1849. George walked ahead to New Plymouth.
The house at Omata abt. 1852 was sketched by Joseph Merrett  He included himself with the Curtis children Ida, Helen and young Charles, the family dogs, a feeding sow and piglets, hams and poultry hanging in the verandah shade.
