Ashburton Guardian, , 26 Apr 1910: OVERDALE. At
the annual meeting of householders of the Overdale school district, Mr
Robert Oakley was voted to the chair. He gave a report of the year's
work, whicn was considered highly satisfactory. The following gentlemen
were elected ac a committee for the ensuing year Messrs Thomas Richards,
C. H. Oakley, J. T. Croy, E. E. Oakley and Robert Oakley.
Press, 10 Sept 1912: RAKAIA. A
parents' social was held at Rakaia on Thursday in the Presbyterian
schoolroom, the object of which was to bring the parents and Sunday
school teachers into closer touch. During the evening speeches on "How
Parents can Help the Teachers" were made by superintendents of Sunday
schools Mrs R. Oakley ( Overdale) , Messrs Boag (Rakaia) and C. H.
Oakley (Chertsey). After a musical programme supper was handed round. It
is intended" to make the social an annual affair.
29 April 1913: OVERDALE. At the meeting of, householders the
following gentlemen were elected as a committee:Messrs. Robert Oakley,
Thomas Richards, C. H. Oakley, John Turton, and Edward E.
Oakley.
28 Apr 1915: OVERDALE. The new committee, was elected
as follows:—Messrs R. Oakley (chairman) J. Turton, AY. Wells, C. H.
Oakley, and E. E. Oakley (secretary).
2 sep 1919 The Chertsey Presbyterian Church held a social
gathering to honour Mr C. H. Oakley and his daughter Miss Ethel Oakley,
who, after a period of service m the Chertsey Sabbath School, are
retiring from the work. Mr Oakley has been superintended, for upwards of
10 years. During the evening the Rev. A. S. Morrison, in the name of the
congregation, "presented to Miss Ethel Oakley, a lady's handbag and to
Mr Oakley, a Bible and pocket-book, in recognition of their faithful and
earnest work for the school. Mr Oakley replied on behalf of his
daughter-and himself, and stated he had enjoyed the work he had been
able to do.
Songs were contributed during the evening: Mrs Croy,
Miss Tucker, and Mr L. Oakley, Rev. Mr Morrison gave an
instrumental item, and Miss .C. McKee a recitation. A goodly supper was
provided by the ladies before dispersing.
