William, from Donegal occ. ploughman, immigrated on the ship "Star of China" - departure from Plymouth on 19 Apr 1875 arriving 01 Aug 1875 at Lyttelton (ChCh Press - Account of the Voyage) and destined for South Canterbury - first at Albury and then At Raincliff. Successive years Timaru Herald advertisements show the fruits of his industry.
