EDMOND JONATHAN ACKROYD (b. 31 Dec 1862; Temuka; d: 9 Dec 1903 aged 40Y;)  Farmer; He did not marry. 
 
Press  10 Sept 1896: ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES; Eldest son of Mr John Ackroyd, Waitohi, was riding home from Orari his horse fell with him and he broke the small bone of his leg. Luckily, a man in a paddock adjoining saw the occurrence and drove him to the doctor's, and he is progressing as favourably as can be expected.
 
DEATH. ACKROYD.— On December 9th, 1903, at Temuka, Edmund Jonathan eldest son of John Edmund and Maria Ackrovd, of Mile Thorn Farm, Temuka; aged 40 years.
 
FUNERAL NOTICE.THE Friends of Mr and Mrs John Ackroyd are respectfully informed that the Funeral of their late son, EDMUND JONATHAN, will leave their residence, Milethorn Farm, Temuka, THIS DAY, December 10th, 1903, at 2 o’clock, for the Temuka Cemetery
Temuka Leader:  10 Dec 1903: The many friends of Mr and Mrs J E Ackroyd will regret to hear of the death yesterday at Temuka of their eldest son Edmund Johnathan. He had been suffering for some time from a painful complaint and was hardly expected to recover. He was a steady hardworking man and a dutiful son and we feel sure the numerous friends of the familly will deeply sympathise with them in their bereavement, The funeral takes place today
 
Temuka Leader:  12 Dec 1903 The funeral of the late Mr Edmund Jonathan Ackroyd took place at the Arowhenua Cemetery at Temuka on Thursday afternoon, and was largely attended, friends of Mr and Mrs J. E . Ackroyd taking part in the procession to the grave from all the district round. No less than 53 vehicles were counted following the hearse, besides many persons on foot. The Rev. J. Adcock read the funeral service according to the procedure of the Church of England. Four sons-in-law carried the coffin from the hearse to the graveside. Many beautiful wreaths were sent. Mr B. Comer was the undertaker
 
Probate 1904 
This is the last will and testament of me, Edmund Jonathan Ackroyd of Temuka in the Provncial District of Canterbury and Colony of New Zealand, Farmer.
I appoint Joseph Lee of Temuka, aforesaid butcher and Patrick Mitten of the same place, Farmer to be the Executers and Trustees of this, my will.
I bequeath the specific legacies following namely:
To my father John Edmund Ackroyd, my trap horse
To my brother Herbert Ackroyd my hack "Landsman", my saddle and bridles, my gun and one share in the Canterbury Farmers Cooperative Association
To my brother Arthur Ackroyd my draught horse "Geordie" my horse breaking tackle, my other share in the said Association and my share in the Christchurch Meat Company
To my sister Mary Ackroyd my watch and chain
I bequeath the following legacies free of legacy duty name  the sum of 25 Pounds each to my sister Bertha Ackroyd on attaining the age of Twenty three years
I give the residue of my property to my trustees in trust after payment of my just and lawful debts and my funeral and testamentary expenses for my brother Herbert Ackroyd after  attaining the age of Twenty three years with power to invest the same by way of compound interest on deposit in the Bank of New Zealand or the Post Office Savings Bank. I further direct my Trustees to invest the legacy herein before bequeathed to my sister Bertha in a similar manner for her benefit.
In the event of my brother Herbert Ackroyd or my sister Bertha Ackroyd dying before the age of Twenty three years I direct my trustees to divide the monies secured  secured by the aforesaid investments and representing the share of such one  as may so die amongst all my brothers and sisters then living in equal shares.
 
In witness whereof I have set my hand to this my will the twenty third day of November one thousand nine hundred and three. Edmund Jonathan Ackroyd
