After finishing his schooling at the Pleasant
Valley and Tarata Schools,
Ted returned to
the South Island where in 1914, he married and the
couple lived first at Waddington doing farm work then purchased a farmlet
at Broadfield, out of Christchurch, working on the property and Ted
contracting out his labour to others.
In July 1939, Ted, Edith and some of the
family moved to the North Island, first working on the farm of Ted's late brother
Bill who had died the previous year. Then, in 1941 they moved to Eltham to
another farm and the following year to 96 Union Street, Hawera where Ted
was storeman for Newton King until his retirement. Click here for their
