The Deep Lead Company, Blacks No. 3, had a washing-up last week from about 20 or 30 loads which they have lately taken out ; the results, I learn, the quantity of precious metal obtained were most satisfactory, , Mr Robert Love, the late manager of the company, has marked out a large claim on the lead, and it is stated he has applied for the county boring rods to prospect for deep ground. There is no active work just now at the Serpentine reefs, that country being several feet deep in snow, but there is great activity observable amongst shares, a good many changing hands. There is little doubt but that there are good things up in that land of snow and swamp, and next spring I prognosticate will see a large population there. Arthur Love. Born at Poolburn 96 years ago, Mr Love
lived almost his entire life in the Poolburn-Moa Creek-Ophir area. He
worked as a labourer, gold miner, horse breaker and
rabbiter and in later years living in retirement in Ophir. As a violinist, Mr Love had few peers and he was a regular member
of local dance bands in the early 1900's. Mr Love spent 20-odd years in retirement in Ophir and he
would walk to Omakau daily for a meal and supplies from the local
restaurant and being well known to the passing motorist he would more

he would delight the patients and staff on numerous occasions with an item
on the "fiddle." Burial: Blacks cemetery, Omakau
