DAVIS—-GUILFORD WEDDING

Brilliant sunshine prevailed when the marriage of Marie Benbow (Molly), second daughter of Mr and Mrs E. B. Guilford to Alexander Ernest, elder son of Mrs and the late Mr E. A. Davis, Port Chalmers, was solemnised at the Broadfield Methodist Church. The Rev. H. Cotton was the officiating minister and Mr C. Wallace presided at the organ. The church was beautifully decorated with mauve and white flowers.

Escorted by her father, the bride was charmingly attired in a magnolia satin frock made on fitting lines, with buttons down the front, the skirt being flared to form a train. The sleeves which were full on the shoulders were fitted to points on the wrists. Her cream embroidered veil fell over her face from a coronet of orange blossom buds and she carried a trailing bouquet of pom pom dahlias, roses and carnations. On coming out of the church the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe by little Phyllis Butcher.
Miss Pearl Guilford, sister of the bride attended as a bridesmaid. She wore a frock of mauve embossed georgette and a halo of silver lame. She carried a bouquet of shaded mauve flowers.
The bridegroom was attended by Mr C. Boys, Lincoln, as best man and Master Gordon Butcher, nephew of the bride acted as page boy. He was wearing a green satin suit.
At the reception held later at the home of Mr and Mrs David Butcher, the guests were received by the bride's mother, assisted by the bridegroom's mother. Mrs Guilford wore a rust shade frock with hat and shoes to match and carried a bouquet of autumn-tinted flowers. Mrs E. A. Davis was wearing a navy frock trimmed with floral material of lemon and pink flowers and maidenhair fern.
For travelling, the bride chose a saxe blue frock with a navy coat and accessories. Mr and Mrs A. E. Dayis will reside in Lincoln.

The next 16 years were spent at Lincoln, followed by 18 months at Akaroa and then on to Port Chalmers where Alex had started his Post Office career. At Temuka, Molly had a chance to meet her Benbow relations, then it was on to Peoroa - 4 shifts in five years - moves necessitating changes in schooling and upheaval. As Molly put it "You only just got the floor coverings down and you were off again".

1965 took the family to Hawera, and Molly joined up with brothers and sisters. They remained into retirement and in 1993, Alex and Molly came to live at Mount Maunganui to be closer to their daughter and son. Sadly, Alex passed away just ten months later.
