Olive Beatrice* Barney was born: 18 Mar 1907 in Gisborne to parents Charles and Amy Barney. She was admitted to the Awamoko School 18 Sep 1912 at Georgetown - her last Day 17 Dec 1920; Destination Home.

Beatrice was 20 when on  5 Oct  1927, she  married Gilbert George Cross at the Woodland St. Methodist Church, Timaru.  

Gilbert was born: 08 Mar 1905 in Temuka to parents James Cross (1865-1948) and Elizabeth Preddy (1868-1945)  March 1910. His family was living at the Esk valley where he first attended that school and the following year they moved to Gore. He and Beatrice were at Timaru 1931 where he was a Motor Carrier before moving to Reefton. Gilbert had a keen interest in racehorses and a later move took them to Rangiora, a great spot for breeders and it was here Beatrice died 24 May 1987 aged 80, and Gil died 22 Sep 1990 in Rangiora where they were buried.
