18 May 1906 TARATA CHURCH. The anniversary tea in celebration of the opening of the Tarata church was held in the public hall, Tarata, on Thursday, 10th. The weather, that all important master, was just, perfect, both by day and night. The tea, provided by the ladies of the district, ready punctually at 5.30 p.m., was presided over by Mesdames Paterson, Bint,, Drummond, Jansen, Mowbray, and Hunt in their- customary first-class style. At 7.30 p.m., the tables were cleared, and the hall prepared for the concert, which was provided by local and visiting talent, and was throughout of a high order, possessing, among other merits, the charm of novelty, as the majority of the performers were new in Tarata. Songs were by Mesdames Meyenberg and Webster, Misses Gilford, and Brownie, and Mr French duets, instrumental, Misses Paterson, vocal, Mr and Mrs Meyenberg, Mr and Mrs Webster recitations, Messrs Currie and Drummond (the latter a Gaelic one with interpretation) reading, Scotch (humorous), Mr T. D, Webster. The accompaniments were ably played by Miss Wilson. It was generally considered' that, the function was one of the best held in Tarata, and the financial result should place the church building fund on a still more satisfactory basis.
