Standard, 25 January 1904: A painful accident occurred to a three
year-old son of Mr T. Trumper, of Ormond, Hawkes Bay, The child
accidentally fell into a preserving pan containing jam, and was severely
burned about the chest.
Poverty Bay Herald 18 April 1911: At the
inquest, held on Saturday afternoon, before Mr H. E. Hill, J P., acting
coroner, into the circumstances surrounding, the death of the lad Edward
Trumper, who, was accidentally drowned in the. Waimata river on,
Friday afternoon last, the evidence adduced substantiated the details of
the sad affair given in our last issue. The jury, of which Mr J.
Brosnahan Avas foreman, returned the following verdict: "According to
the evidence, we, the jurymen, are of opinion that the deceased' came by
his death by accidental drowning, and we highly praise the witnesses,
Messrs Davis brothers, for the manner, in which they worked to find
the deceased boy, also Constable Dandy. We deeply sympathise with the
deceased's parents, and suggest that something should be done to aid the
police in the way of getting a set of grappling irons which is
strongly needed in this district.
