William Ackroyd (b: 16 Oct 1870
in Temuka, Sth Canterbury: d: 30 Jun 1890 in Temuka)
Temuka Leader -
7 July 1888 Accident: A son of Mr John Ackroyd, Waitohi, met with a
painful accident on Tuesday evening, he was returning from the
Washdyke
with a horse and dray, when near Mr Lee's Bacon Factory the horse
shied, throwing him out of the dray. He was stunned for the moment,
but managed to get up and catch the horse. He then however, lay
down, and a resident in the neighborhood, who had observed the
accident, sent to Mr Ackyoyd's house, which is not far distant, for
assistance. Mr Ackroyd rode down promptly and found the boy
suffering from no pain, but evidently dazed. Although able to walk
he could give no account of how the accident happened, nor could he
remember where he had been, or even recognise the horse and dray he
had been in charge of at home. On his arrival at home Dr Campbell
was sent for, who gave him the necessary restoratives, and from
latest accounts the lad is doing well.
DEATH. Ackroyd: On the 30th June, 1890, at
Milethorn Farm, Waitohi, William, the beloved son of John E. and
Maria Ackroyd; aged 19 years and 8
months. Deeply
regretted
