Hurworth Cottage
-
Hurworth Cottage was where Elizabeth Sefton found
employment as a governess. It is open to visitors at 906 Carrington Rd, New Plymouth and
is cared for by New Zealand Historic Places Trust It was built by Sir Harry Atkinson in 1856 and is surrounded by a charming &
peaceful garden. Steeped in history as a special & significant
reminder of early pioneering ways. The garden, quaint in its simplicity
is under-going redevelopment, to reflect early settler
life..
This early photograph of the original house is on the wall inside the house.(Photo taken 2009) This was
how Hurworth would have looked when Elizabeth Sefton was
there.
