The 1861 census lists James and his family living at 1 Formtanell Road, Springburn, Lanarkshire along with his mother-in-law Agnes Gilroy.

On the 6th Feb. 1864 James, Ann, Robert, Mary Robertson and William arrived at Port Chalmers, Otago New Zealand on the "SS Wellington". Euphemia was already in NZ and had married Peter Anderson and Catherine had also been there for 4 yrs with her husband Charles Robertson. The family settled in Waimate (click here for details of his life) Ann died in 1888 and James passed away  in 1899 - they are both buried in the Waimate Cem.

4 Andreas (Andy) Carlson Anderson b: 1879 d: 14 Jan 1907 in Omakau Clutha Leader,  18 January 1907 Mr Andreas Carlson (Andy) Anderson, a railway guard, was drowned on Monday while bathing in a waterhole at Omakau. Deceased was well known in Balclutha where he served four years of his time as signalman on tne local railway staff. About nine months age he was promoted to relieving signalman and guard and was transferred to various stations, and he was here for a week or two before Christmas. He was well liked and was very popular with his fellow-employees, besides having been a promising member of the local football team. Mr Anderson was 27 years of age and had been in the railway service for 10 years. His parents reside at Mansford, town Port Chalmers. The local railway staff sent a very nice wreath for the grave of their departed comrade.

C. CATHERINE BRUCE (b: 22 0ct 1849, Ardrossan, Occ: mill wkr; d: in childbirth on 9 Dec 1892 Stewart Island; bur; Horseshoe Bay Cem.) she mar: 16 Dec 1873, at 1 Hutton Plce, Springburn, Glasgow, Scotland to CHARLES ROBERTSON (b: c1851 son of Rev John Robinson, a Unitarian minister in Glasgow Scotland and Mary nee Robinson; The five Robertson brothers had a grammar school education and Charlie and Bill learnt engineering from their uncle. George served his time as a draughtsman and went in for books and learnt about publishing and printing and brother William went in for accountancy. Charlie and Catherine, newly married came to NZ with his brothers Bill, George and Walter Roberson on the ship "City of Glasgow" sailing on 23 Dec 1873 and arrived 21 Mar 1874 to Waimate to operate a sawmill. When 7 years later the mill burnt down leaving 40 hands out of work, George went to Melbourne, Australia and became a book salesman (the source of a fine libary at Horse Shoe Bay)and Charles, Bill and Walter left for Stewart Island where they settled in Horse Shoe Bay. Their first job was to put in a steam sawmill at North Arm for Mr Hayes, a Nova Scotian. In 1884 the Robertson brothers started a fish cannery at Horse Shoe Bay, 

Charles d: 1 Jan 1945, Invercargill aged 95 and was bur: at Horseshoe Bay, Stewart Island - he was described as a genial man with the Robinson twinkle in the eyes and a very important looking nose, tall and spare of body with a good beard. He wore a Tan O'Shanter, tartan blue and green. He had a prodigous memory and expressed himself in lucid English. A man of upright character and a man of his word - he could speak on any subject expecially science. Charles and Catherine's 7 children:
