Little Hadham is 2 miles north of its larger name-sake, Much Hadham - both are situated in the valley of the River Ash. Little Hadham has attractive timber framed cottages, farmhouses and the ruins of a windmill.

 The medieval St Cecilia church (originally called St Edmund the Martyr) dates from the 15th century and is built of flint and stone.

Thomas Barnard (1754 - 1819) mar: 8 Dec 1785 in St Anne Soho, Westminster, London to Elizabeth Sutton (b: Abt. 1754; d: May 1828 in Little Hadham, Hertfordshire aged 74Y Dedication: St Cecilia; bur. Little Hadham)   

They had 2 sons: (1) William Bapt: 31 May 1789 St John the Baptist London and

(2) Thomas BARNARD Jnr. (bapt: 24 Oct 1790 at Little Hadham). He was associated with the trade of  watchmaker and goldsmith like his father.  Thomas  Barnard mar: Mary Ann Axten on 4th Nov. 1810 in Westminster St Anne, Soho, London - their known children are:

1. Ann Barnard (Bapt: 6 Aug 1815 in Little Hadham, Hertfordshire;) She mar: 24 Jul 1835 in St. John the Evangelist, Middlesex, Borough Lambeth to John Pardoe.Ann d: Jun Quarter 1839, Lambeth, Surrey.

2.  Maria Barnard - Bapt: 10 Aug 1817 in Little Hadham, Hertford; d: Dec 21 Christchurch, NZ

3. Thomas Charles Barnard was b: 8 Feb 1819 at Great Hormead, and bapt: on June 13, 1819 at Little Hadham Hertfordshire, England; d: 28 Aug 1903 Carterton, New Zealand.

4. Harriet Barnard - b: 14 Feb 1821 in Great Hormead, Hertford Bapt: 02 Jun 1822 Little Hadham, Hertford

5. Emma Barnard - Bapt: 02 Jun 1822 in Little Hadham, Hertford

    She d: 11 Aug 1824 abode South Street aged 2 yrs - she was bur: at St. Mary Lambeth on  Aug 13th

 

6. William Barnard - Bapt: 11 Apr 1824 in Lambeth, St. Mary Lambeth, William was son of Thomas (Clerk to Silversmith) and Mary Ann BARNARD of South Street.

    He d: aged 1 yr at South Street and was bur: Aug 1, 1824 at St. Mary Lambeth

 

9. HENRY BARNARD was born 1826 in Lambeth, London, to parents  Thomas & Mary Barnard of South Street, Jeweller and bapt: 11 Jun 1826

Henry died 13 Apr 1827 in South St. Lambeth, Surrey. Bur: on 15 April 1827 aged 1 at St. Mary Lambeth

8. Edward Robert Barnard - Bap: 15 Jun 1828 in St Mary, Lambeth, London

9. William Barnard, son of Thomas & Mary Ann BARNARD of Homer Street, Clerk to a Jeweller, was b: 15 Aug 1829 and  bapt: on 21 Aug 1829 at St. Mary Lambeth

Mother Mary Ann BARNARD d: in childbirth aged 40Y. After her dedication at St Cecilia, Hertfordshirem she was bur: on 17th August, 1829 at Little Hadham. ; Denomination: Anglican

Thomas remarried his sister-in-law Alice AXTEN on 11th April 1830 at St. John the Evangelist, Lambeth.

Thomas d: Dec Q Lambeth and was bur: 16 Nov 1840 with Mary Ann at Little Hadham, Hertford (his name transcribed GS Film 1537790 as Bernard)

Alice Barnard was b: abt 1792 A widow living at Homer St when she d: aged 41 yrs  and her bur; was on 20 Jan 1833 was at St Mary Lambeth, Surrey.
