George William Benbow  was b: 08 Mar 1900 to parents James and Alice Harriet Benbow at Winchester, Temuka. George worked on the Kaikoura-Picton line for most of his life and was a railway guard, surfaceman and storeman for the NZ Railways before becoming ill with cancer. He  retired In 1966 and lived at 116 Jerrold St, Spreydon, Christchurch. He d: 13 Jul 1966 in Hospital aged 66 years and was Bur: 15 Jul at Ruru Lawn Cemetery, Bromley, Christchurch.  

On 20th May 1925 at the Hampton Presbyterian Church, he mar: Barbara Maud Amelia Thelma Margaret Morgan daughter of James Morgan and mother Jessie Aitcheson (b: 26 Jul 1899 in Hampton.)

1956 - Marlborough Electorate; living at 9 Ludstone Rd, Kaikoura, railway guard with wife Thelma and son Douglas

1966 - Ashburton electorate; 169 Tancred St, Ashburton; porter with wife Thelma

After George's death, widow Thelma  continued living at 116 Jerrold St; until 1975 then moved to 12 Broughan St; until her death aged 87 years on 1 Apr. 1987 (bur: Ruru Lawn Cem. Block no: 38, Plot no: 80)

MARGARET THELMA BENBOW, (b. 30 Apr 1926, Oamaru, Otago; Occ: Registered Nurse; Last address at 8 Cobham Dr Morrinsville, she d. 11 Mar 1982 at Waikato Public Hospital, Hamilton; Crem. 15 Mar 1982 Hamilton Park Cem;, Newstead, Waikato)  Margaret mar. in 1952 at Chrictchurch to JAMES BRUCE* AYLMER ROPER (b. 25 Mar 1923; d. 19 Apr 2005)  Their two children are Janette and George Roper
