Woodings of Woodbury
Thomas Percival Wooding was born to parents Joseph Turvey and mother Ann nee Percival on 7 March 1832 in the village of Turvey, Bedfordshire, England. Others in the family were Joseph Henry Wooding 1846-; William Wooding 1847-1867; Sarah Wooding 1850- ; Richard Wooding 1852-1870; Charles Wooding 1854-; Caroline Steward WOODING 1855-1946; George Collins Wooding Steward 1857-1940.
Thomas was brought up as a gardener and in 1856 Thomas now aged 24 and emigrated to New Zealand aboard the ship "Joseph Fletcher", arriving at Lyttelton. He settled in Canterbury and worked for a time as a foreman on the formation of the Papanui Road, Christchurch, and for the next 18 years farmed at Woodend where he was a member of the first Wooden church, school committee and sexton of the Woodend church. He married  in 1858 at Kaiapoi to Miss Hephzibah (Hessey) Gibbs, b: 1838 at Turvey, Bedfordshire. Her parents - father George Gibbs (b: 1810 Turvey; d: 1864 Kaiapoi) and mother Mary Powell (b: 1810 Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire; d: 1876 Durham Street, Christchurch) immigrated 23 December 1856 with their family on the "Egmont"

In 1875 Thomas bought the  500 acre property later known as 'Woodland Grange', Woodbury where he kept half-bred sheep, and his oat crops averaged forty bushels per acre. His sons followed in their father's footsteps and much of the breaking in of the farm was done by eldest son, Joseph and later with the assistance of brother Tom, who was eight years his junior. Later, together, they became partners in a well-known Canterbury threshing and contracting business, Wooding Bros. of Woodbury. Joseph had been one of the first pupils at the Woodend school and Tom jnr. was educated at Woodbury. Having experience working on their father's property, in 1888 they started in partnership on a farm near Woodbury. They owned two threshing combines, clover shellers, and chaff cutters, which they work throughout the Geraldine and Orari districts, and during the season of 1899, they threshed 233,000 bushels of grain.

Mr. Joseph Wooding (b: 1861 d: 09 Sep 1933) was a member of the Woodbury Domain Board for many years. He married 1892 Sarah Elizabeth, daughter of Francis and William Hawke, Geraldine,(b: 1865 d: 28 Mar 1955) Their children:
