        4 June 1902: The annual meeting of the Clutha branch of the New Zealand 
        Farmers' Union took place on the 24th ult., Mr John Findlay (president) 
        in the chair. The. chairman said he wished to refer to the sudden death 
        of one of their members, Mr Jefferis. He had known Mr Jefferis ever 
        since he came to the colony, and always held him in the highest esteem. 
        The secretary was instructed to write a letter of condolence to Mrs 
        Jefferis.
