The Vessel "Guardian" sailed on the 12th September 1789 from Spithead with 25 Male convicts. The Guardian struck an iceburg and limped back and arrived at 21st Feb 1790 at Port CAPE, Africa.There were 5 Deaths.Captain and Master; Lt Edward Riou (RN) and 20 convicts survived who were then to join the Second Fleet
Lt.Edward Riou appealed that they should be given pardons for their aid and assistance in safely returning the ship to Table Bay.
