JOHN ARTHUR* BARTRUM was born 24 May 1885 in Creek Station, Geraldine (son of Benjamin Packer Bartrum and Charlotte Amy Hayden) He died 07 Jun 1949 in Roturua Hospital and was bur: at Rotorua.

He married CONSTANCE ELLA LORIE on 3 Jul 1912 in Takapuna, Auckland, daughter of ADOLPHUS LORIE and SARAH WALLIS. She was born 11 Mar 1888, and died 22 Oct 1966 in Auckland. He parents were Adolph Frederick William Lorie (b: abt Nov 1859 in Clerkenwell, Finsbury, Middlesex and mother: Sarah Ellen Wallis b: 26 Feb 1860 in Colonial Cottage, Nairn Street, Wellington.

They were to have three daughters and one son

1913 Wanganui Chronicle, 25 Nov 1913 John A. Bartrum, M.Sc, at present Assistant Geologist for the New Zealand Geological Survey Department, has been appointed lecturer in geology at Auckland University. He was educated at Pleasant Point School, Timaru and Christchurch Boys' high schools and the University of Otago from 1904 to 1907

i. DR JOHN (JOCK) WYNYARD BARTRUM, b. 23 May 1912, Auckland; Occ: Medical Practitioner; Major Bartrum, WW2; d. 1975; m. 1973 to MARGERY CONSTANCE L NOBLE,  b. 28 Jul 1911; d. 1983, Rotorua.

ii. MARGARET PATRICIA BARTRUM, b. 07 Dec 1914, Ocean View Rd, Takapuna, Auckland; Occ: Agriculture chemist; d. 1991. She did not marry.

•BIRTHS. BARTRUM.— On December 7, at Ocean View Road. Takapuna, to Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bartmin a daughter.

•1930 Auckland Star,  27 Mar 1930: A senior national scholarship has been awarded to Margaret Patricia Bartrum, a /pupil of the Takapuna Grammar School

iii. ELEANOR CONSTANCE BARTRUM, b. 1917, Auckland; d. 30 Jun 1938.

iv. JOAN WINIFRED BARTRUM, b. 07 Dec 1919, Auckland; Nurse;  16 Jul 1952 H.V. Rangitata WW2; d. 1974, Auckland. She did not marry
