Mark and Sarah Lienert

SARAH AGNES DAVIE was born April 05, 1910 in Timaru, and died May 07, 1965 in Wellington. Burial: Nae Nae Cemetery. She married MARK ERNEST LIENERT April 20, 1933 in Timaru, son of EMIL LIENERT and MARGARET ROLLINS. He was born January 07, 1909 in Gore, and died November 27, 1984 in Lower Hutt.
Mark's father, Emil Lienert was the youngest of 12 children born at Sheoak-Log in Adelaide to a German family from Hanover. He was the only one who came to New Zealand and after arriving, settled first at Invercargill then went to Gore in 1909 where his eldest of four sons, Mark Lienert was born. Emil next moved to Pleasant Point 1911 where he bought the Blacksmith Shop.

When he was 15 years old, Mark started work in N.Z. Railways at Dunedin and in 1933, he married Timaru-born Sarah Davie. Sarah was the third child and eldest daughter of the family of nine children born to Kate & Robert Davie. The newly marrieds were transferred to Palmerston North in the North Island and here Trevor and Ruth were born. The family were again transferred in 1944 - this time it was to the Lower Hutt Railway Workshops Staff-office and here Mark Lienert worked until his retirement in May 1965. The third child David, was born in Lower Hutt in 1947. Tragedy struck our family on the day of their father Mark's retirement - Sarah, his wife, was accidentally killed as a pedestrian in Wellington, aged just 55 years. Mark enjoyed 20 years of retirement and was a great musician and he loved to travel until his death in 1984, aged 75 years. (Family research by daughter Ruth)
