Otago Witness:- Several sons of Mr Charles Pelvin, farmer at Redcliff, were working in a gravel pit yesterday when the sides fell in, covering one of the workers to the waist and entirely burying a smaller brother, aged 6 years. When the child was uncovered it was found that he had been suffocated and his life was extinct.

A child named Clarence Pelvin was killed at Redcliffs on June 30. The boy, with several brothers, sons of Mr Charles Pelvin, was in a quarry, when the sides slipped down and buried him. "When he was extricated he was found to be dead.
